Abstract
On June 5, 1976, a long-range planning conference was held under the aegis of the Division of Ophthalmology of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. This meeting was chaired by the president-elect of the Academy, Dr Bradley Straatsma, and was attended not only by the ophthalmologist members of the council and by the various secretaries of the Division, but also by representatives of most of the national ophthalmologic societies. The following associations were represented: American Association of Ophthalmology; American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology; American Board of Ophthalmology; American Medical Association; American Ophthalmological Society; American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology; Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology; Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists; Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group; Pan American Association of Ophthalmology; Retina Society; and the Society of Eye Surgeons.
