Abstract

Social work education has always been concerned with the melding of theory and practice, the skills for collaborative work and now the need to utilize all these in working with special population groups. As one way of addressing the need, a stipended summer fellowship program in gerontological social work in Health Care was developed at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. The following will provide the rationale for this new program and a description of the setting at which it took place. The process of planning and initial steps will be discussed as important forerunners of actual program implementation. Reported here, as well, will be evaluation of this summer experience.
