Abstract

Mineralised geological formations of economic value are found largely in rocks of Precambrian age. The Bureau of Mineral Resources has carried out detailed mapping in some such mineralised regions. As the Australian Standard Colour Scheme for geological maps prescribes brawn hues only for sedimentary and metamorphic rock types of Precambrian Periods, a special colour scheme was devised providing for colours according to rock types independent of age or stratigraphic position. Differentiation is much enhanced, yet age can still be determined easily by using the legend.
