Abstract
Independence training at Whitney Young Mid dle School is accomplished through individualized in struction. Each teacher assumes the role of manager, resource person and curriculum technician. The teach designs tasks, diagnostic and retention tests. A task may be specifically related to basic texts or may re quire resources beyond the classroom, i.e., the media center, the community or other resources.
