Abstract
A new subnanosecond pulsed laser-source for mid-infrared (MIR) LIDARbased on difference-frequency generation (DFG) in periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) is developed. An output pulse energy of up to 36 pJ is achieved by amplification of the pump and signal laser. A pulse duration of Δτ=538 ps has been measured using silver thiogallate as a non-linear device for an upconversion cross correlation experiment. The mid-infrared pulse duration corresponds to a spatial resolution of Δs≈8 cm in the LIDAR system.
