A study towards understanding perception of environmental sustainability in Turkish aviation industry

Abstract

Purpose- The main aim of this study is examine sustainability from the environmental aspects which is increasing in its importance. Methodology- The procedure of the study as follow: Firstly, review of literature are carried out in the headings namely sustainability, environmental sustainability and aviation sustainability. Then, interview questionnare, participant information and finding of questionnare are stated in the second part of the study. Finally, perspectives of environmental sustainability in aviation industry are evaluated and suggestions are submitted in the last part of the study. Findings- In this research, viewpoints and applications of the air service companies regarding sustainability are observed in order to understand their approach. Furthermore, the difference of sustainability approach between private and public enterprises are determined in this study. Conclusion- As a result of the work done, it has been seen that environmental sustainability matters more than other dimensions of sustainability. Legal regulations have a significant contribution in this regard.
