Abstract

Background and Objective: Pressure perceived as acceptable by an individual may even keep workers alert, motivated, able to work and learn, depending on the available resources and personal characteristics. However, when that pressure becomes excessive or otherwise unmanageable, it leads to stress. The study was conducted to study the socio-demographic characteristics of the power loom workers and the psychological status of power loom workers. Method: A community based, cross-sectional study was conducted among the power loom workers of small-scale industries of Meerut. Three hundred and twenty five workers were selected by purposive sampling. The subjects were then interviewed by using a pre-designed, pre-tested and semi-structured interview schedule for socio-demographic data and general health questionnaire 12 for psychological status. Discussion: The study revealed that two-third of the study population had good psychological well-being, that is 80.9% as there GHQ score was 6. Conclusion: This study suggested that psychological status among small-scale power loom industrial workers were good.
