A Study to Determine Factors Contributing to the Medical Evaluation Board Processing Time at the Joint Military Medical Command - Booke Army Medical Center

Abstract

Abstract : Forty-six physical disability records filed at the Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Office, JMMC-BAMC, were reviewed to evaluate factors contributing to the processing time of medical evaluation boards. The Center's average total processing time of 59.6 days indicates a need to review the Health Services Command's established 30-day standard. Specific segments of the medical evaluation board process were identified and measured. A correlation matrix using Microstat software identified three medical evaluation board segments, T1 (initiation of the medical board) T2 (physical examination), and T5-Total (Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Office segment) that correlated well with the total medical board processing time. The high correlations of these segments indicate that efforts at reducing total medical evaluation board processing time should be directed at physicians who initiate the process and at the Physical Evaluation Board Office.
