Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability of a wide-viewing angle TFT-LCD using IPS mode for notebook PCs. In two human factors experiments, an IPS LCD was compared to a TN LCD and two film-compensated-TN LCDs. The results revealed that the IPS LCD had significantly higher image quality than the others. Based on these findings, we proposed new user scenarios. This paper describes the advantages obtained by equipping notebook PCs with wide-viewing angle LCDs.
