Abstract

A standard addition method was studied for a carbon tube flameless atomizer for an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. In this method, a standard solution and a sample solution were separately dropped into the carbon tube. The standard solution was first dropped and dried by heating the carbon tube electrically. After being cooled, the carbon tube was treated with the sample solution in the same manner. Then the element was measured according to the ordinary method.Although the effect of iron on the aluminium determination with the carbon tube flameless atomizer was remarkable, this method was tried and a good result was obtained. A 0.018% of aluminum in steel was analyzed with the reasonable coefficient of variation such as 6%.This method can allow the analysis time to reduce and is very useful for the small amount of sample of which matrix is unknown, and for the powdery sample suspended in a solvent.
