Abstract

Busan’s modern historical values are traces of community life in which refugees built their homes to survive during the Korean War. Gam-cheon Culture Village and U-am Village, which are the targets of this study, differ in their historical background and formation process. In addition, Located at the foot of the mountain and on the beach, the two villages can compare the characteristics of the terrain. The sketch map was collected based on Kevin Lynch’s potential for ‘imageability’. Through the sketch map, the cognitive characteristics of the space and environment inherent in the residents’ memories were analyzed. Various environmental images are installed in the cognitive space, and in ‘imageability’, five elements of the city’s image could be found. The conclusion of this study is that the past space is maintained in the residents’ memories. Exploring social spaces is an important issue for urban environmental change, and research will continue to be conducted to protect the village identity.
