Abstract

Although many studies have been focused on middle-age women back pain, but no comprehensive studies have been conducted on physical activity type and exercise type on middle-age women back pain in Korean. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to find relationships of back pain prevalence, physical activity intensity and exercise type in middle-age Korean women. METHODS: Study subjects were 40∼50 years (n=806; Age = 44.78 ± 3.21 years; Wt= 58.24 ± 8.42 kg; Ht = 157.39 ± 5.22 cm) women who were surveyed by the 2008 Korea national health and nutrition examination survey (KNHANES). We performed analysis to determine the influence of physical activity intensity (high, moderate, low) and participated exercise type (muscle strength, flexibility) on back pain prevalence. Logistic regression model were used to determine the odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for relationship of back pain prevalence, physical activity intensity and exercise type. RESULTS: It has been shown that some risk factors of back pain prevalence were muscle strength exercise (OR=.62, 95% CI= 0.41-0.95) and moderate physical activity intensity (OR= 1.64, 95% CI= 1.08-2.48). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that back pain prevalence was related to moderate intensity physical activity and muscle strength exercise participation.
