Abstract

Enterprises are an essential component of national economy, whose operation and business activities are closely related to environment issues. However, most enterprises in China are bound by environmental policies and regulations to live up to their environmental responsibility. This passive attitude of obedience can't play a good role in the improvement of environmental performance. This study constructs the model between corporate culture and corporate environmental performance, with the control variables of enterprise scale and enterprise property. In the part of empirical study, the qualitative and quantitative research methods are combined to verify the relationship between corporate culture and corporate environmental performance through analyzing the data of 127 manufacturing enterprises' culture. The results show that: (1) Two dimensions of corporate culture, ethical-social culture and emotional-developmental culture, have a positive effect on corporate environmental performance, while economic-practical culture doesn't have a positive effect on corporate environmental performance. (2) Environmental management practices can moderate the relationship between corporate culture and corporate environmental performance. Specifically, ISO certification of environmental management system will enhance the relationship between them. According to the results, this study offers suggestions for the improvement of corporate environmental performance on corporate culture construction and environmental management practices.
