Abstract

Korean English education is usually criticized for its teaching style lacking the communication skills. However, the play for children in English is done mostly in expensive private institutes because the public educational system does not serve the kind of program much enough. The paper suggests developing the play programs by applying Lev. Vigotsky s theory of proximal development meaning the help of teachers and more knowledged other or others in the nearby zone outside the range that average children can do by themselves. The research method is to discuss the multilingual education in India with the interest in its utility and present the practicable ways and characteristics of applying Vigotsky s theory to the play for children in English as a sort of psychomotor alternative. Meanwhile, it is evident that multilingual education and Vigotsky s approach share the concept of constructivism that students should find and motivate themselves in a natural way. This research has a useful significance in providing theoretical backgrounds that the Korean Education Ministry should increase the play system for Children s foreign language skills with the help of the new techniques such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Realty on the Internet.
