Abstract

There exist comparatively few studies on the dynamic behavior of rotating systems with limited power supply when passing through the critical speed. However, little work has been done on the determination of the optimum operating curve of such systems to minimize the maximum whirl deflections yielded just after passing through the critical speed. In this study, a new method of dynamic analysis is presented in which both Newmark's β method and Newton-Raphson's method are utilized. Then, from a practical point of view, optimum operating curves are studied by making use of an optimization technique.
