Abstract

Buddhism, which originated in India, was introduced to the Korean Peninsula during the Three Kingdoms Period through Western Asia and China, along with Buddhist scriptures containing various Buddhist ideas. Since then, several Buddhist sects have been established, and temples across the country have maintained the characteristics of each temple according to the sect. Among them, the Mittagye temple, which is based on the Jeongto religion, has been well preserved despite various wars in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty. Muryangsa Temple in Buyeo is used as a representative temple of Mittagye in Chungcheong-do. Through this study, we will study the location of temples, axes, pagodas, territories, and the composition of pavilions to understand the layout and characteristics of Mittagye temples and examine the process of change.
