Abstract

Dahoe is a traditional cord and has been a necessity since the ancient times. Belows are the existing Dahoe looms as of today: two wooden bowl Dahoe loom are in the Museums of Ewha Woman’s University and Sookmyung Women’s University now. Those are used in the palace in the 19 th century. The structures of the two looms are similar, however, the loom in the Museums of Ewha Woman’s University has a Joonsoo to fix a core. A hanger for 4-strand cord used when making 4Sa, a 4-strand cord. A 8-strand Frame was used when making 8Sa from Namwon, Jeollanam-do Province. This loom is cone-shaped with a small plate and has a needle to hold the cord in place. Dongdahoe and Bangdahoe can be made from a loom with a round plate. Gwangdahoe loom is used to make wide and flat forms of belts. It can be seen that the Gwangdahoe looms were used in genre paintings which painted by Kim, Joon-Geun and the painting of Gookhak-dogam. Lee, Jong-Suk said he saw making a belt on the simple back-strap loom. However, this loom has a similar structure to a loom for Pyeonja and it is assumed that it was used to make Gwangdahoe. Until the end of the 20 th century, Dongdahoe looms were cylindrical shape and gradually turned into cone shape. The shape of End-sides of Tojaks were gradually turned into flat.
