Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to study the characteristics of debris ∞ow which was transferred from slope failure. Three kinds soil materials that were composed of difierent grain sizes were used to observe the behaviors of slope failure under difierent channel slopes and water content by laboratory experiments. The movement of soil body appeared from sliding or ∞owing to deposition, if the slope gradient of channel was below 32%. And the experimental results were shown as follows. The scale of deposition and the types of soil body movement were relative with channel slope, water content and the composition of soil material. The slope stability was in∞uenced by clay ∞occulation and water cohesion. Sandy loam soil contained more clay content than the sand soil and loamy sand soil, which could keep maintain the slope earth steepness vertically as water content was 10»25%. The shape of deposition area became narrow and long with the channel slope increasing.
