Abstract

Ceramic foams are recently used in many applications such as porous burner, support catalyst, heat exchanger, etc. In the area of porous media applications, pressure drop is considered as a very significant parameter. Especially, in cases of hot fluid with high velocity, this is counted as a very important factor. In this research, pressure drop was studied in different porous media made of SiC and Al2O3.The effect of hot and cold fluid on the pressure drop was extensively studied. As a result, it was concluded that the fluid velocity has a very remarkable effect on the pressure drop. Moreover, the effect of viscosity on pressure drop was investigated. Accordingly, it was realized that increasing the temperature causes an increase in the viscosity and a decrease in gas density. These all lead to a descending trend for pressure drop. Eventually, it was understood that for foams with finer pores, the pressure drop will have a slow descending rate. This is due to high impact of viscosity on pressure drop in finer foams.
