Abstract

In this paper, various parameters were chosen in order to investigate the effects of gender, size of mobile as well as noise on the performance during a data entry task. The analysis consisted of 14 participants of different genders 7 each into two equal groups to perform data entry tasks on mobile of size 5.8 inches and 6.2 inches under the influence of varying noise levels. The total number of words entered by each subject in ten minutes was analyzed statistically. The male performed better than their counterparts at each noise level. The performance of each subject was found better on smaller phones than the larger one. With an increase in noise intensity, the performance was degraded and then enhanced at 94dBA. Effects of gender, size of mobile phones, noise as well as the interaction between gender and noise were found to be statistically significant. The interactions amongst all the three were found to be insignificant.
