Abstract

In view of the application of gas cleaning technology by electrical discharge, the authors investigated the effect of characteristics of pulse corona on the gas decomposition. It was shown that pulse rise time, pulse peak voltage and pulse frequency greatly influence the decomposition of the gases. Pulse rise times less than about 100 nano sec, pulse peak voltages more than about 25 kV and pulse frequencies more than 60 pulse/sec are required for effective gas decompositions (nearly 100 % decomposition). Gas residence time more than about 2 min (flow rate less than about 0.4 cm/sec) is also necesarry for effective decomposition of the gases.
