Abstract

In recent years, in order to improve the living conditions of villagers in poor areas, the Chinese government has built a large number of resettlement houses to allow Hmong villagers to move from their traditional dwellings to newly built, planned modern resettlement houses. However, there have been some cases of Hmong villagers returning to their original dwellings after moving to the modern dwellings due to discomfort. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand how Hmong villagers perceive the interior design elements of Hmong traditional dwellings, and to provide design guidelines for improving Hmong modern migrant dwellings by introducing important elements from Hmong traditional dwellings into modern migrant dwellings. The study begins with a study of prior research, a case study of a traditional Miao village in Hunan Province, China, a questionnaire survey of villagers on the importance of interior design elements, and finally a guide for improving the interior design of modern migrant homes through importance analysis.
