Abstract

In this study, application of noise map for the prediction and examination of road traffic noise is discussed for two urban areas in Osaka Prefecture, i.e. Tennoji Ward (Osaka City) and Higashiosaka City. Noise mapping is performed based on the 2015 road traffic census data of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) by employing ASJ RTN-Model 2018, which is a model developed by the Acoustical Society of Japan (ASJ) for predicting the road traffic noise (RTN). For calculating the noise attenuation due to buildings, building façades are extracted from the national base map of MLIT. To examine the effect of measures related to noise mitigation, noise maps are produced for several hypothetical cases, such as reduction of vehicle noise, adoption of porous asphalt pavement, and utilization of the speed limit for vehicle speed data.
