Abstract

The study presented here examines teaching critical thinking skills (CTS) in elementary schools. I have confronted the challenges of teaching critical thinking (CT), and I have realised this would also be an issue for most learners and teachers in Korea. This study aims to discuss the current principles and practice of CTS to develop understanding of teaching CTS and to effectively teach CTS in Korean elementary school. I have found that young learners are competent to think critically, and teachers need to optimise and structuralise learning strategies and methods to help them manipulate reasoning issues and achieve cognitive and affective development of CT by providing appropriate learning experiences, with considering pupils’ developmental stages.
