Abstract

Background: Resident doctors have heavy workload and have to deal with a large number of patients having different health conditions and the health risks faced by the doctors puts them under lot of stress. There is a growing concern about stress among doctors working in hospitals, so present study was carried out to assess the prevalence of stress and factors inuencing among them at a tertiary care hospital, Vijayawada. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted in Siddhartha Medical College, tertiary care hospital in Vijayawada from August 2021 to January 2022. The perceived stress scale of 10 items self administered questionnaire was used to assess the level of stress and data entered in excel sheet and analysis was done using SPSS Version 24(trial). Results: A total of 300 resident doctors were interviewed, all were above the age of 24 years, Out of all residents 39.1% had stress, among them 45% were females, 49.1% were males. Out of 47 married residents 72.3% had stress. In present study stress among the rst year residents had more than second and third year residents. Conclusion: Providing support and improving working conditions, adequate resources and psychological counselling and therapy, conducting stress management programmes can help in combatting the stress
