Abstract

This study examined the possibility of pulping paper mulberry bast fibers using cooking liquor comprising mixing solvent of 10% of pyruvic acid-choline chloride (RC DES) and 90% of water. In particular, the effect of the cooking temperature on the pulping efficiency was investigated. The results confirmed that paper mulberry bast fiber can be cooked using a low-concentration PC DES cooking solution when cooking at a temperature of 100℃ or higher. The screen yield of pulp fiber decreased as the cooking time increased from 110℃ to 130℃. The reject, which was not fully cooked, also showed a decreasing pattern. In contrast, the delignification increased with increasing the cooking temperature.
