Abstract

Since it is one of the special features of plastic gears that they are generally used without lubrication, there are few ways of transmittng large amounts of power by unclear lubrication. Accordingly, there are comparatively few studies on lubrication for plastic gears. In this study, we used three kinds of mineral oil with different viscosities in oil-bath lubrication to operate plastic gears, and investigated such factors as rising temperature at the tooth, change in tooth profile, and wear on the tooth. We studied the effects of oil lubrication through comparison with the case of oil-free operation.
