Abstract

When a snow line of seasonal snowcover reach a mountain in spring, a complex pattern of white domains covered with remaining snow and black domains of ground surface appears in a mountainside. In some of the domains are called "Yukigata" in Japanese. The Yukigata have been used mainly as a kind of calendar for agriculture in most of snowy regions in Japan since long time ago. I investigated viewpoints of mountains in villages and Yukigawa with forklore data, and so on. I measured a distance, an angle of elevation and the bearing from viewpoints in villages to mountains by the map. As a result, the angles of elevation are classified two types and the bearings are distributed from east to south.
