Abstract

Most problems of LED lighting systems are based on thermal problem so many researchers study this problem and develop higher performance cooling methods for LED lighting system. In this paper, we show that seebeck elements can be used for cooling system of LED lighting system. The cooling abilities of each system were studied to compare each LED cooling system. Each cooling systems consist of the only heat sink, seebeck element +heat sink, peltier element + heat sink. We used a 3W LED chip as light source and the LED chip were attached on a heat sink. The driving voltage of LED lighting is 10 V. In addition, either seebeck elements or peltier elements were attached between heat sink and LED substrate. The temperature of each cooling systems were measured by thermocouple and data was recorded by Data logger. As a result, cooling efficiency of LED with seebeck element is 9% higher than heat sink and 4% lower than peltier element. Therefore, peltier element is better than seebeck element on the performance of LED cooling, but peltier element was spent 0.4 W of power. Seebeck element is 9% less than peltier element on the performance efficiency of the cooling LED system. However 0.0035mW electric power was generated by seebeck element.
