Abstract

In order to study the erosion behavior of gun barrel bore, a new type combustion setup was designed. The combination of some samples can be mounted in the setup as the outlet nozzle. Using this setup, gun barrel bore sample can be eroded by combustion gases. The erosion process was simulated by a finite element model with a erosion model which based on heat and chemical effects. The simulation results show that thermal concentrated at the land corner and strong erosion occurred. The chamfer on barrel land corner turn smooth after few firings. The experimental and simulation methods in this paper can be used to study erosion in gun barrel bore.
