Abstract
This paper focuses on the green supply chain management (GSCM) practices and innovations done in the petroleum industrial sector of India and aims to analyse the key factors influencing the implementation of these practices. The paper is based on a survey conducted on senior executives of the petroleum industry in India. A questionnaire designed to study the various GSCM practices was administered to 42 senior executives from this sector and the responses were analysed. The finding of the study reveals that major benefits are in the form of regulatory compliance and adoption of environmentally friendly practices. Different types of technologies used as well as the mode of operations of participating firms are also discussed. The driving forces which helped the company in implementation of these practices are also reviewed. Some of the major barriers are also considered. The study also brings out the need to implement these practices as incremental improvements in the existing system.
