Abstract

Studies on engineering college teachers’ training programmes have highlighted the importance of at least one week training for the technical teachers in basic pedagogy. Apart from pedagogy teachers felt the need for counselling skills training to handle the problems faced by students. The present study was conducted to understand the effectiveness of engineering teacher training programme and is based on the feedback of teacher trainees who underwent short-term training in Guidance and Counselling. 60 (40 for the first programme and 20 for the second) engineering college teachers have given their feedback on various aspects of the training programme like quality, facilities, relevance and usefulness. A Qualitative research tool was administered at the end of the training. The findings reveal that the teachers appreciate the importance of training and had special interests to know about Psychological characteristics of adolescent students, counseling skills, Emotional Intelligence, Personal Guidance, Career Guidance and Transactional Analysis.
