Abstract

Corporate governance has assumed great importance in recent times. Corporates have realised that it is not possible to achieve sustained growth without adherence to corporate governance norms at least partially. CG is the surest way of preventing corporate frauds and misrepresentations. Based on recommendations of various committees, the Indian Govt. has prescribed CG norms both for public and large private sector companies. The present study seeks to ascertain extent of adherence to CG norms in large Indian Railway Public sector companies. It is found that though there is commitment to adhere to these norms, yet these firms have still to go a long way, there is insufficient adherence to norms of Independent directors on the board, etc.
