Abstract

In this study, a new type of isolation table using an X-Y table and wire rope isolators was developed. The wire rope isolator has both stiffness and Coulomb damping in x, y and z directions. The isolation table is simple in construction, and has about the same stiffness and damping in every directions in the horizontal plane. The resisting force characteristics of the X-Y table and the isolators and fatigue strength of the isolator were measured. The seismic responses of the isolation table having a weight or a two-degree-of-freedom furnishings model on board were also measured using an electro-hydraulic type shaking table, and the experimental results were compared with the calculated results.
