Abstract

The intermetallic compound coatings were manufactured on the surface of low carbon steel by reactive braze coating process using the powders of Ti, Ni and Si as the raw materials at 1050 °C. By means of SEM, EDS, XRD and micro-hardmeter, the microstructures, the phases and hardness of the coating were analyzed. The results show that the coatings are composed of two phases, namely Ti 5Si 3 and NiTi 2, and have a dense texture. By metallurgical bonding the coating and the substrate are integrated together.
