Abstract
Through the means of allowing ample water within a glass cylinder to be imbibed by a small cylindrical tablet made of the Yamagata Water-imbibing Clay, which is a kind of the so-called Bentonite, it has been found that there exists such a close relation as rv=r. dr/dt=const. between the linear swelling velocity, v, of either the direction of the axis of the tablet or that of a line perpendicular to it and the elongation, r, of both directions.
