Abstract

A preliminary investigation is presented of the use of X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy for the study of the oxidation, under sliding conditions, of rubbed molybdenum disulphide films on steel surfaces. The results show that the investigational technique can provide information to aid the elucidation of the mechanism of film failure.
