Abstract

This paper presents the optimal design of a novel synchronous reluctance motor with outer rotor for determination the effect of rotor pole shape in the machine's performances. The investigation has been made in order to find the possible aspects to improve the power factor with refining rotor dimensions without added permanent magnet. Starting from the classical design of rotor pole implemented in Flux 2D, a finite element analysis software and the optimal design procedure implemented in Matlab, a complex co-simulation was accomplishing to obtain an outer rotor structures that increase the machine's performance: saliency ratio, power factor and torque density. The obtained results have never been presented in the past literature and its represents a useful starting point for the following analysis of outer rotor synchronous reluctance machines.
