Abstract
The relationship between topography of the sealing surfaces of mechanical face seals and their sealing characteristics was experimentally and theoretically evaluated. As a result of testing and analysis, it is evident that the micro-streaks formed on the sealing surface of the mating ring by the polishing process had a remarkable influence on the sealing performance.
