Abstract

The Direct Proportion formula and the Fraser method were used to study the body - scale relation of the northern hog sucker, Hypentelium nigricans (LeSueur) in the West Fork of the Drakes Creek, Warren and Simpson counties, Kentucky, based on the data taken from February through November, 1979. The total body lengths calculated by the Direct Proportion formula are much lower than the actually observed data. "Rosa Lee's phenomenon" was also found in age group I and II. Some relevant interpretations were given. As suggested by Fraser, the correction facto r determined by actually observed data was introduced to the Direct Proportion formula. As shown by the stepwise regression analysis in this study, the Fraser method might be a better approach to describe the body - scale relation and in back-calculating the past body lengths.
