Abstract

The reaction 9Be( 3He, 6Li) 6Li has been studied at bombarding energies up to 10 MeV. The 6Li particles were identified by an associated particle time-of-flight technique in which the mass of one particle is determined from the product of its energy and flight-time squared, ET 2. Angular distributions at 6, 7, 8 and 10 MeV along with an excitation function at a laboratory angle of 50° have been measured using 6Li 6Li coincidence. The angular distribution data indicate that high angular-momentum transfer ( l = 3 and 4) is involved at the higher energies. Observed cross sections of the order of 5 mb total are surprisingly large in view of the high angular momentum transfer.
