Abstract

It is a well-known fact that green space plays a significant role in sustainable urban development and ecology owing to its environmental as well as recreational and economic benefits. Construction of urban ecological networks and maintenance of sustainable livening environment may be supposed as the most necessary response to rapid urbanization to be considered by the landscape planners. Urban green spaces create great cities where the built and the natural environments are interwoven. However, sometimes creating green spaces are considered as a challenge, particularly in developing countries, where there is pressure for space, resources and development. Urban green spaces are multifarious as green spaces contribute to the urban environment with many different functions and values. Green spaces can facilitate sustainable urban environment in a number of ways: purifying air and water, filtering noise, and stabilizing the microclimate. Therefore, city planners have to design optimal sites to provide new green spaces. Users of green spaces have different needs and preferences. Thus, planning and management of urban green spaces is a cross-disciplinary and cross-functional discipline. The present study undertakes to elaborate on urban planning and its inclination towards green space and the urge to have the landscape planners to consider the same in planning.
