Abstract

Axial current matrix elements between nucleon states are calculated in quenced lattice QCD. The ratio F/ D is seen to be less than 2 3 , the quark-model value, for light quarks but an instability in this quantity near κ cr precludes a definite prediction. Assuming a smooth extrapolation of the axial current coupling to the physical nucleon mass region yields an estimate for the renormalized coupling constant g A/ g V of 1.1 ± 0.1.
