Abstract

In analysing Masheder's observations of the OH 1612 MHz maser source in the direction of NML Cyg, I introduce a new idea, namely that the red-shifted and blue-shifted components originate in different shells of the circumstellar envelope. A self-consistent picture of velocity field, mass loss rate, coherent length and pumping mechanism is then obtainable which agrees with all the observations. The SiO non-maser emission appears to be a good indicator of the radial velocity of the central star and the velocity field of the envelope.
