Abstract
The electrochemical reduction of cis-azobenzene in dimethylformamide has been studied by polarography, controlled potential coulometry and cyclic voltammetry. The cis-azobenzene radical anion obtained in the first 1e stage isomerizes rapidly to the trans anion. Its lifetime is of the order of 0.1 ms at room temperature. A comparison is made with analogous ethylenic cis radical anions.
