Abstract

Angular distributions and excitation curves are presented for the C 12(He 3, n)O 14 (ground state) reaction for bombarding energies between 5.5 and 11 MeV and for the C 13(He 3, n)O 15 (ground state) reaction for bombarding energies between 7.5 and 11 MeV. The angular distributions in both cases have peaks at 0°. They are analysed in terms of Newns' double stripping theory 1). In the case of C 12, the 0° cross section shows a large variation with energy, while in the case of C 13 the excitation curve is relatively flat. Results are compared with the available data from corresponding (He 3, p) reactions.
