Abstract

We present a detailed study of the low-field minor hysteresis loops, and the harmonic generation in magnetization, in sintered samples of Bi1.7(Pb)0.3Sr2Ca2Cu3O10. We report history effects as the DC field is cycled and as the AC field is varied. We find, however, a qualitative difference from similar studies in YBa2Cu3O7. We observe large harmonic magnitudes in a DC field regime where history effects are small. This has a possible interpretation that the intergrain weak links are magnetically hysteretic even when the grains are almost reversible. This interpretation is in agreement with the recent measurements on history effects in transport Jc.
