Abstract

AbstractThe viscous property and flow characteristics of four Indian China clays was studied with the help of Stormer viscometer. It was found that the increase of viscosity with concentration was very rapid after a certain critical concentration of clay was exceeded. Behaviour of clays as such and the H-clays on electrolyte addition could he identified with the type of clay mineral present and the particle size distribution. Of the four clays studied, two—Rajmahal and Simultala—showed decrease in viscosity on addition of NaOH. Cossimbazar showed an increase but Travancore did not show any response.
