Abstract

This thesis concentrates on the emission characteristics of the thin-film organic 2D-photonic band-edge lasers. The gain material is mostly a blue dye, 2-(4-(pyren-1-yl)phenyl)triphenylene, which is called PPT for short. The organic thin-film is PPT doped in polymer. We have three polymers to select, PVK of M.W. 90,000, PVK of M.W. 1,100,000, and PC of M.W. 64,000. We utilize Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) technique to decide which polymer and weight percent. 2D-photonic crystal lasers with triangular lattice are designed by photonic band diagram and fabricated by electron beam lithography. We design five structures with different band gaps to compare in this thesis.
