Abstract

Thiacetazone in powdered form has been shown to have an LD50 of 25 μg./ml. on cultured human embryo liver cells. This is much higher than the probable serum concentration attained in current therapy with the drug.It is postulated that the wide variation in toxicity caused by thiacetazone in geographically diverse regions might be correlated with the variations in endemic liver disease.
